Jenny Lee's Jottings

As an adult, a night of fun is often expected to involve glasses of wine, appetizers, music, and lots of small talk. I have to admit that I often miss being a kid when pulling out a board game was the obvious choice for how to have an evening full of fun. Luckily, I’m still very much a kid at heart, and I manage to indulge my love of board games every now and then. Mancala has definitely been a favorite game, since it’s one of the few games my husband will humor me with (he is decidedly not a game person!). We’ve played countless rounds with our lizard mancala board, which is one of my favorite collaborative projects with him.

I love to learn about other cultures, and living in Los Angeles has definitely given me many opportunities to do so. The Mexican holiday of Dia de muertos/dia de los muertos (Day of the Dead) is a cultural holiday I’ve been exploring more in recent years, especially after my friend, Jenna, invited me to Dia de los Muertos at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Yarn lovers—we’ve all been there…. You have a massive inventory of yarn, and you’ve sworn up and down that you won’t add to the stash until you use it up. But then you inadvertently walk by a bin of discontinued clearance yarn, and you can’t help yourself—you buy it ALL!

I love how crafting is such a fun outlet for my creative expression. I love it even more when it also serves as an expression of my problem-solving skills!

There was a great deal on Amazon for 75 double point needles (15 5-needle sets in various sizes) for $15, and I jumped on it! Now I’m not a sock knitter, but I do love to knit toys, and I mostly use double-points when making my plushy friends.

But how was I going to store 75 needles in an organized way? I looked at ready made cases, but I wanted something that would definitely house ALL of my double points, and have some more fashion flair than the solid color cases I was mostly coming across.

In the spring of 2009, I “married” my husband three times! First we filed the legal paperwork to be married (it’s a very cut and dry ordeal in S. Korea), then we had a traditional Korean wedding ceremony, and lastly, we had a wedding reception in California. This series is dedicated to the last event, which was truly my DIY masterpiece. Nearly every aspect of our travel-themed wedding was a DIY project that I poured my heart into. I hope you enjoy this series of DIY wedding projects!

Today’s project: Table Centerpieces for a Travel-Themed Wedding

I’ve been to enough weddings to know that guests love taking the centerpieces with them! I’ve taken a centerpiece myself a time or two, and I’ve always found it a bummer when the flowers eventually withered away.

For my own centerpieces, I knew I definitely wanted something that would last–I hated the idea of…

A running theme in all of my DIY wedding posts relating to flowers is this: KEEP IT SIMPLE! There is no sense in attempting DIY wedding flowers if you’re going to try to be a professional florist overnight–I’m certain your sanity will suffer otherwise! And as a DIY crafty bride, there are going to be a million
